Netflix Comes To The UK

US Movie Streaming service Netflix has finally made it’s way to the UK, and from day one you can enjoy unlimited Movie’s from either your Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii. After spending a couple of hours with the service this morning, I have come off thoroughly impressed with what it has to offer.

Testing Netflix out on the PS3, you will find the Icon under the TV/Video Services part of your XMB.
Upon start-up you will be asked to create a Netflix, with a credit or debit card needed. The service is currently £5.99 a month for unlimited access. The sweet part of the deal is that if you are a first time subscriber, you get a free month trial upon signup, which you can cancel at anytime within that month without being charged a penny. So at least you get to try it out.

Once you are up and running, you can choose to link your Netflix account to your facebook page, allowing you to share the shows or movies you watch with your friends, or see what they themselves have been checking out.

The variety of content is quite impressive even at this very early stage. You can choose from different genre’s including Horror, Sci-Fi, Action, Romance and Comedy. There is even a children’s section that is sure to keep them occupied for hours. Even recent TV Programmes, such as Appropriate Adult are listed.

As a former subscriber of rival Lovefilm, I was very underwhelmed by the content they had on their streaming service. Not only wasn’t it very good, it was also pretty bad quality.

With Netflix you can steam movies in HD, providing you have a speedy connection. This however is another reason why I have been so impressed. Netflix doesn’t seem to have to buffer your content. When you begin a movie, it will load for a few seconds, but then play it continuously without ever pausing. For someone like me who hasn’t got a very speedy connection it’s fantastic news.

Overall I am very impressed with what Netflix has to offer at this stage. I hope they can continue to deliver new and great content on a regular basis, but for £5.99 a month, the price you would probably pay to rent the latest Blu-Ray from Blockbuster for a few days, you get great content with Unlimited access and is definitely worth the money.
